Wheat

"A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil, and honey" (Deuteronomy, 8)
 
Wheat is mentioned in the bible as the first of seven species with which the land of Israel is blessed.
Wheat is the second most wide spread crop in the world, after corn and before rice; it is one of the five species of grains.  Most of its growing in Israelis undertaken in the Negev region.
The principal use for wheat kernels is in the production of flour for the baking of breads and pastry products; wheat is also used in the production of alcohol and beer and of starch and gluten.
Growing wheat at Nir is totally mechanized, beginning with planting, with a planting machine combined with a fertilizer apparatus; the spraying of weeds is undertaken during growing using hormonal compounds; harvest is undertaken by combine, which cuts, threshes and cleans the kernels, and loads them automatically.
